Born in 1943 near Albertville, Savoie-France, Mr. Solet was fascinated by wood. He found his inspiration during his travels around the world on board a hand crafted wooden sail boat he designed and built. The hull was constructed with slats of wood layered together-a unique method that gives added strength and durability to the craft. In 1986 during a landing in southern Chile, Mr. Solet fell in love with the country's beauty and abundance of wildlife seen along the coast. Experimenting with a local hardwood called "lingue" he began sculpting using the same wood slating process he learned from his boat building. He sculpted the wildlife he loved, crafting them with the same personality and attitudes that had charmed him. Mr Solet is fast becoming internationally known for these unique, whimsical wooden sculptures. Not only does his art possess an aesthetic beauty, it's also a reminder of the inherent beauty and charm found in the wild.
